Illustration Friday: "Pioneer"

Here is my entry for this week's Illustration Friday, done in Photoshop. It's a little pioneer girl picking some flowers on a hill with her pet kitty. I hope you like it.

Happy New Year everyone! : ) I hope everyone has a wonderful new year.

Illustration Friday: "Undone"

Here is my entry for this week. The topic is "undone," so I felt this fit pretty well since this little sheep is not yet done knitting her Christmas stocking. Done in Photoshop.

Merry Christmas everyone! : )

Illustration Friday: "Hatch"

Here is my entry for this week's Illustration Friday. It's a little odd-looking fluffy dragon that just hatched. He was originally going to be a random monster, but wound up being a dragon as I drew him in Illustrator. Ah well.

See you all next week! : )

Illustration Friday: "Crunchy"

Just a really quick cartoon this week in Photoshop. I really wanted to do something in Illustrator, but my program is having issues for some reason. It's really quick, but I hope you enjoy. The topic was "crunchy" this week. We always get this squirrel in our yard every morning that munches on the seeds and nuts in our bird feeder, so I felt inspired. In this case, he's just chomping down on a big crunchy acorn.

Hope everyone has a great weekend. : ) Until next time!

Illustration Friday: "Entangled"

This was a tough topic for me for some reason. I've been having a bit of an artist's block lately. Anyway, here is my entry for this week. He's "entangled" in a piece of his own web, so he's a bit irritable.

Done in Photoshop this week. Have a great weekend everyone. : )

Illustration Friday: "Music"

It's a bit random this week, but I thought this fit the topic for Illustration Friday. I just felt like drawing a panda for some reason, playing his little bamboo flute. I've been sick with some stomach bug most of the week, so it was hard to be productive. I somehow managed, though.

Done in Illustrator this week. I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving! : )

Illustration Friday: "Unbalanced"

This was a really quick doodle I did on paper in marker this week. This little guy is a bit "unbalanced" because of all that coffee he's been drinking. He can hardly walk!

I hope everyone is having a great week. See you next time!

Illustration Friday: "Blur"

Here is my entry for this week. I hope this qualifies for the topic, "blur." Looks like fun.

Done in Photoshop this week. Enjoy! : )

Illustration Friday: "Skinny"

This was kind of a tough topic, but I somehow managed. Poor Mr. Skinny Cat wants to be a sumo wrestler, but it seems he doesn't have the right physique for the job. Poor little guy...

Done as a quick sketch and colored in Photoshop. Just upgraded to Windows 7 from XP, so things are a bit hectic computer-wise. Hopefully things will be back to normal next week and I can do some more work in Illustrator. Hope you enjoy. : )

Illustration Friday: "Fast"

Here is my entry for this week's Illustration Friday. When I think of "fast," I think of hummingbirds, so I did a quick doodle of one beating its wings really fast.

Done in Photoshop. I haven't been feeling too well this week, so this is a bit more rushed than normal. Nonetheless, I hope everyone enjoys. : ) Have a great weekend!

Illustration Friday: "Frozen"

Well, I know it's a bit early for Christmas, but this is how my entry for Illustration Friday turned out. It looks like a Christmas card, so I'll probably use it this year for that and add some text later off to the right side.

Anyway, the topic for this week was "frozen," so I drew a chilly little chickadee. I love chickadees, but I rarely see them in my area in California. I used to always see them in Illinois at my grandma's house when I was little, though, and I remember how much I loved watching them. Cute little birds, they are. : )

Done in Photoshop. Enjoy!

Illustration Friday: "Flying"

For this week's topic, "flying," I did a quick illustration of a happy little bumble bee carrying some pollen to flowers. Wee... looks like fun. : ) I'm not a huge fan of bees (I've always been a bit scared of them), but I admit they are sort of cute. Plus, they fit the topic quite well, I think.

Done in Illustrator. I'm looking forward to the next topic. Hope all enjoy. : )

Illustration Friday: "Germs"

Well, you don't usually think of germs as being cute, but what the heck? Here's some germ kids acting all cute. Don't let their extreme adorableness fool you, though... they pack quite a punch. Especially that blue one; he's just way too happy.

Done in Illustrator this week. Enjoy! :D

Illustration Friday: "Pattern"

It's pretty late again, but better late than never, right? It's been quite a busy week and my computer is still having issues.

Anyway, the topic is "pattern" this week and for some reason I thought of Hawaiian t-shirts that tourists and such wear. I love the floral pattern on those. Since I went to the Monterey Bay Aquarium this week (which was amazing, by the way) and saw a white shark for the first time, I felt inspired and did a quick illustration of a shark. He's pretty happy wearing his keen-looking, pink Hawaiian-patterned shirt.

Done in Photoshop this week. The hibiscus patterns were hand-drawn, but made into a brush in PS to make the pattern. Hope you enjoy! : )

Illustration Friday: "Infinite"

I had trouble thinking of what to do for this week's topic. I immediately thought of the night sky and how endless or "infinite" it appears. So, I did a mouse looking up at the night sky. It was a very quick sketch done in watercolor pencil.

My main computer has been down all this week, thus I haven't been able to access my Adobe programs. I'm still having issues due to a computer upgrade, but hopefully they'll be resolved soon. Hopefully everything will be back to normal by next week! : )

Illustration Friday: "Welcome"

For this week's topic, I did a quick drawing of a Maneki Neko. The Maneki Neko is a Japanese lucky charm and can be seen frequently at the entrances of various Japanese restaurants and shops. Their paw is held up, which "welcomes" the customer in. They are supposed to bring good luck and many customers. I think they're really cute, so I'm an avid collector of them. : )

The Japanese writing at the top reads "irasshaimase," which means "welcome" in Japanese (as in "welcome to our place of business"). The Japanese character on his bell means "good fortune" and the coin he is holding is called a "koban," which were used in the Edo period for currency. It reads "ten million ryou." The ryou, an old Japanese monetary unit, is roughly equivalent to a thousand dollars, so ten million ryou is a great fortune.

Done in Photoshop. Enjoy. : )

Illustration Friday: "Strong"

For this week's topic, "strong", I did a quick doodle of a superhero hamster. I call him Super Ham. : ) He's just flexing his muscles and showing off his super strength. It's no doubt from all the veggies he eats. Not sure what his main powers are, though.

Done in Photoshop this week. Now back to editing tons of photos to put on Flickr... I'm really backlogged. Anyway, enjoy!

Illustration Friday: "Magnify"

I wish I could have spent more time on this illustration this week, but I haven't been feeling particularly well lately. I ran out of time and wasn't able to add a background like I wanted. At least I managed to get something done for IF, though. : )

Anyway, this should be pretty self-explanatory for the topic this week, "magnify." This little guy seems to like the attention of having the magnifying glass put on him while the others seem a bit indifferent.

Done in Illustrator this week. Hope you enjoy!

Thursday, August 27, 2009

Illustration Friday: "Caution"

Here is my entry for Illustration Friday this week. The topic is "Caution." Ever been around somebody who looks pretty threatening and you don't want to make any sudden moves? That's how this little green monster-guy feels while waiting for the bus. He has to exercise caution so as not to disturb the angry-looking guy next to him. I'd be pretty scared, too.

Done rather quickly in Illustrator this week. I've been a lot busier than I thought recently, so I rushed a bit to get this one done. Hope you enjoy! : )

Thursday, August 20, 2009

Illustration Friday: "Wrapped"

Here is my entry for this week's Illustration Friday. It's a bit rushed, but I'm busier than I thought this week with my college classes. I'm not the biggest dog fan in the world, but I LOVE Welsh Corgis; they're just so cute with their big ears and short stature. If I ever had a dog, a Corgi would be it.

This is probably more "unwrapped" than "wrapped," but hey, he's wrapped up in ribbons. Done in Photoshop. Enjoy and thanks to everyone who visits my drawing blog! : )

Thursday, August 13, 2009

Illustration Friday: "Impatience"

Here is my entry for this week's Illustration Friday. I wanted to do something with penguins, so I illustrated this for the topic. The poor Emperor penguin chick is getting "impatient" and wants to be fed. Unfortunately, his dad hasn't caught anything yet. Ice fishing can be tough... I know it's a little too "Christmas-like" for the summer, but it helps me cool off. : )

Done in Illustrator. It's a similar style to the rooster one I did in a previous week. I'm beat, so I'm off to bed. Hope you enjoy!

Thursday, August 6, 2009

Illustration Friday: "Modify"

I had a hard time coming up with an idea for this week's Illustration Friday topic, but I somehow managed. Guess I'm just tired this week. Anyway, this snail had to fit in in its new urban environment, so he "modified" his shell by doing some fancy graffiti. I think he will blend in just fine. : ) Yes, his name is Steve... not sure why. His look ended up looking a little 1990's, whoops. I'm not a graffiti artist or anything, so pardon the mistakes.

Done in Photoshop. Splatter brushes used for the brick wall are from DeviantArt. Lots of great brushes there!

Illustration Friday: "Idle"

Here's my illustration for this week's Illustration Friday. This rooster just wants to sleep in and remain "idle" through the morning, despite the ruckus caused by some noisy chicks. Some days you just want to stay in bed.

Done in Adobe Illustrator. Enjoy! : )

Thursday, July 23, 2009

Illustration Friday: "Tango"

Here is my entry for this week. The topic is "tango." Tango originated in South America, so I thought I'd draw some tangoing toucans. : ) It's a Keel-billed Toucan (on the left) and a Toco Toucan (on the right), which are both South American birds.

I wanted to do more with this, but kind of ran out of time. I did this in Adobe Illustrator, which, I admit, I have neglected for a long time, so it was fun to draw in the program again. I think I will do more illustrations in Illustrator in the future, even though Photoshop is my preferred program at the moment. It's fun to switch things up a bit.

Illustration Friday: "Hollow"

Just a quick painting in Photoshop for Illustration Friday. The topic was "hollow," so it's a little Northern Saw-Whet Owl hiding from the rain in a tree hollow. Yes... I love owls. They're so adorable. : )

Thursday, July 9, 2009

Illustration Friday: "Shaky"

Ack, almost late again this week! Well, anyway, here is my submission for Illustration Friday. The topic was "shaky" this week, so I did an illustration of a circus elephant on a ball with roller skates on and hula hooping while a cute mouse looks on. The spotlight signals that he is the center of attention on stage. Mr. Elephant is shaky in more ways than one! How will he keep his balance? Anyway, hope you enjoy. This week's topic was quite fun. : )

Thursday, July 2, 2009

Illustration Friday: "Worn"

This week's topic for Illustration Friday is "worn." Even though the teddy bear is old and "worn", the little girl still loves him with all her heart. I'm sure a lot of people, including myself, had a cherished, old stuffed animal when they were little. They hold a lot of memories.

Thursday, June 25, 2009

Illustration Friday: "Drifting"

This is a little late, but this is my entry for this week's Illustration Friday topic. The topic is "drifting." This bunny is "drifting" off to unknown lands in his carrot-shaped hot air balloon. Looks like he's enjoying the trip. Hope you enjoy! : )

Thursday, June 18, 2009

Illustration Friday: "Unfold"

I seem to have taken a liking to hippos lately (I just think they're cute), so for this week's Illustration Friday, I decided to draw one holding an umbrella that he has "unfolded" due to the sudden rain. I hope you enjoy.

More artwork/sketches coming soon, I promise! : )

Thursday, June 11, 2009

Illustration Friday: "Craving"

For this week's topic, I did a quick drawing of a "cupcake monster" about to snatch a poor cupcake. Yes, it's pretty wacky. The monster is a bit crazy-looking because of, well... all that sugar. Cupcakes are its diet, after all. He's probably pink because of all that pink frosting he's been eating. Wow... this has me craving cupcakes myself, hehe.

Enjoy! : )

Illustration Friday: "Adapt"

Once again, I'm a little late this week, but better late than never!

This flamingo has certainly "adapted" to the tropical climate. Plus, flamingos are very adaptable birds with their unique beaks that filter food from the water and their long legs that allow them to stand in deep water. This particular flamingo is drinking a strawberry daiquiri (yum!) and enjoying some rays. I'm really looking forward to going to the beach this summer, so perhaps that is part of the reason I drew this.

Hope you enjoy. : )

Illustration Friday: "Cracked"

Yikes, I almost didn't make it this week. Anyway, here is my submission for Illustration Friday. Mrs. Bluebird seems to think this newly-hatched baby dragon is her offspring, although the dragon is quite confused. Hope you enjoy!

Illustration Friday: "Contagious"

Sadly, it seems like the princess didn't get what she hoped for... Instead of a prince, she caught a bad case of frog warts. How tragic!

There's a lot going on this week, so I got this done pretty quickly. I hope to upload my other non-Illustration Friday work soon. Cheers!

Thursday, May 14, 2009

Illustration Friday: "Parade"

Yikes, this is really late this week. I just barely made it and I'm still working on it. I got caught up in college work.

Anyway, for this week's topic, "parade," I did an illustration of parrots on parade. They are celebrating Mardi Gras/Carnival in South America. From left to right, the birds are the Catalina Macaw (a hybrid of the Scarlet and Blue and Gold Macaw), the Scarlet Macaw, the Hyacinth Macaw, the Blue and Gold Macaw, and the Military Macaw. They're just having fun parading around. : )

Illustration Friday: "Hierarchy"

For this week's Illustration Friday topic, "hierarchy," I was inspired by the hierarchy between pets in a typical household. Usually the dog is king, but in this case, the cat rules the house. His scratching post serves as his throne. Cats are pretty demanding and tend to be pampered a lot, so I'm sure this isn't far from the truth in some households. Plus... I just love cats. : )

It's a bit rushed this week, but I hope it will do. Hopefully I will upload other sketches and get my blog more finalized this week. Cheers!

Thursday, April 30, 2009

Illustration Friday: "Theater"

This week's topic for Illustration Friday is "theater." I did an illustration of tanuki (Japanese raccoon dogs) doing kabuki theater. Tanuki are said to be masters of disguise according to Japanese legend, so I thought it would be fitting for them to be dressed up as kabuki actors. I call it "Tanuki Kabuki."

These topics are a lot of fun to draw. I'm looking forward to the next one. : )

Thursday, April 23, 2009

Illustration Friday: "Impossibility"

I decided to do another Illustration Friday entry. The topic for this week is "impossibility." I saw some adorable ducklings over the weekend and got inspired, so I drew a duckling with a rubber ducky friend. Alas, it is an "impossibility" for Mr. Rubber Ducky to become real. They seem happy together, though. : )

It's not in my usual cartoony style, but I wanted to try something different for a change.

Illustration Friday: "Fleeting"

I'm still in the process of getting my blog together and uploading images, but I decided to upload an image for Illustration Friday. Every Friday there is a new topic posted on the website and you have to design an illustration based on that particular topic. It seems like a lot of fun and a good motivator, so I'm giving it a try. : )

This week's topic is "fleeting." I decided to do a quick children's illustration of a lion holding a dandelion blowing in the breeze. Hope you enjoy.
